The adaptable attacker, who can play up front as an orthodox striker or out wide, has been a massive success since leaving Chelsea to move to Ligue 1 with the Ivory Coast international scoring 20 goals in 47 domestic league appearances but now appears keen to make a Premier League return.

Prior to his move to France Kalou scored 60 goals for Chelsea and would be a very useful addition to any high ranking Premier League side.

The fact that the experienced attacker is available for just £2.5m, that being the level his release clause is set at, makes a possible return to the English top tier in January very likely indeed.

Liverpool have overly relied upon Luis Suarez in recent months, following Daniel Sturridge’s injury lay-off, and with Iago Aspas and Victor Moses both struggling for form a move to bring in Kalou, who Brendan Rodgers will know well from his time at Stamford Bridge, would be a cost effective boost to the Merseyside club’s push for a top four finish.

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood may also be keen on strengthening his attack given the poor goal return supplied by summer signings Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.
