Arsenal Linked With Exciting Deal For ‘New Mesut Ozil’

Bundesliga starlet on Emirates Stadium shortlist after strong start to the season and bargain release clause revealed.

Arsenal have scouted VfL Wolfsburg attacking midfielder Maximilian Arnold with a view to a summer bid, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners already have plenty of attacking midfielders, but an £8m buyout clause in the 19 year-old’s contract means the opportunity to sign him may be too good to miss.

Arnold has been hailed as the next Mesut Ozil, but is in fact a far more direct player, as illustrated by his willingness to shoot on sight.

The teenager has scored six times in his 14 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring six goals and taking 2.5 shots on average per game.

Two of those goals have come from long range efforts outside the box, and leaving Arnold space has proved the downfall of a great number of sides already this term.

At the end of this season, Arnold will have just a year to run on his contract, and may seek to further improve at Arsenal.

It is not yet clear whether the pursuit of Arnold will affect Arsenal’s pursuit of Julian Draxler.
