It appears Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing in the experienced Spanish international, which is perhaps a surprise given that Belgian Simon Mignolet has been fairly solid in his debut season at the Merseyside club.
32 year old Valdes has stated publicly that he will leave the Nou Camp in the summer when his current contract comes to a head and there will be no shortage of offers for the custodian.
During a 12 season run in the Barcelona first team set-up Valdes has racked up 528 appearances for the Catalan giants, helping the La Liga side to six domestic titles and three Champions League triumphs.
One imagines that any hope Rodgers has of capturing Valdes would depend on Liverpool securing a Champions League berth for next term.
Mignolet has conceded 32 goals in 26 Premier League fixtures this term.
