Liverpool are said to be preparing a move for Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer at the end of the season after Brendan Rodgers identified him as a player that can help add some more quality to the club’s engine room.

CaughtOffside understands that boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan on the Dutch international and has been secretly keeping tabs on his progress over the course of his maiden Premier League campaign.

The Reds had been interested in bringing the midfielder on board back in 2011 when he was still at FC Twente, and many believed that the Anfield outfit would go back in for him last summer, only for Norwich to surprisingly pull off a deal to take him to Carrow Road.

However, Norwich have struggled for form this season and are still very much in danger of slipping through the trap door down to the Championship and a number of the club’s high profile summer acquisitions have not performed as the club had hoped, leading many to believe that an exodus is on the cards should the unimaginable happen.

But luckily for Fer, he has been one of the few consistent bright sparks for the club and has bagged himself four goals in 19 appearances across all competitions. His performances have drawn high praise from all corners.

Having made his way through various levels of youth football with the Dutch national team he has so far only made five appearances for the senior side and it is not likely that he will make the final squad to head to the World Cup this summer. He had previously expressed a desire to play for the Netherlands Antilles, but upon opting to pelage allegiance to Holland he is said to be aggrieved at Norwich’s grand plan failing and thus resulting in him missing the showpiece tournament.

Liverpool have had their problems in the centre of midfield this season as injuries and suspensions threatened to derail their title bid around the turn of the year, but luckily they have managed to turn their form around and are still very much in the mix to win the title.

And Brendan Rodgers is keen to ensure that he has enough competition in the first team to ensure that he never has to suffer through a scare like that again.

Fer is valued at around £8m, and Norwich will be looking to recoup as much of that fee as possible should they decide to cash in.
