That could lead to a £15million offer in the summer for a player who was born in Brazil, became Spanish and is now playing in Portugal.

The 23-year-old has become one of Europe’s most scouted players this season with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool also rumoured to be interested in taking him away from the Estadio da Luz.

The Spain Under-21 international scored 15 goals in 16 appearances at that level for his new country, and he has been in prolific form at club level too, bagging 16 goals in 24 appearances for Benfica.

Rodrigo is of course no stranger to the English game, having spent a short stint on loan with Bolton Wanderers three years ago where he managed just one goal in 17 outings.

However, most of those appearances were from the bench and and he has since developed into an accomplished and deadly striker, which is why Arsene Wenger has targeted him as one of his priorities this summer.
