10. Luka Modric – Real Madrid to Chelsea

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is eager to link up with Modric once again after enjoying a strong working relationship with him during their time in the Spanish capital. Madrid are still keen to hold on to him after emerging from a difficult first season much stronger, so Mr Abramovic will need to break out the cheque book in order to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

9. William Carvalho – Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United

The Portuguese wonder kid has been a revelation for Lisbon’s second side this season, and rumours were already going around that a big money deal had already been completed. Sadly, no such deal has been done, but United remain hopeful that a £30m bid will be enough to convince Sporting to sell up and ease their growing financial crisis.

8. David Luiz – Chelsea to Barcelona

The popular Brazilian was inexplicably frozen out of Chelsea’s side earlier in the season, but has since forced his way back in. However, with Carles Puyol retiring and Barca’s often shambolic defence helping them lose ground on Atletico Madrid they will be in the hunt for some new defenders to plug the leak and re-establish them as a dominant force in Span and European competition once again.

7. Jackson Martinez – FC Porto to Tottenham Hotspur

All season long the Colombian goal machine has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but with Wenger apparently turning his attentions elsewhere that has allowed near neighbours Spurs the chance to jump in and begin talks over a big money deal. After Soldado’s misfiring season, Tottenham are looking for someone lethal to partner Emmanuel Adebayor up front.

6. Ivan Rakitic – Sevilla to Liverpool

Rakitic’s form this season has been nothing short of awe-inspiring and it is no wonder that half of Europe are taking an interest in him. Liverpool, for a long time, were said to be leading the chase for his signature, but Sevilla are doing their best to resist, knowing that they have such a talent on their hands. The Reds will push the issue this summer, though, as Rodgers’ midfield frailties could be attributed to costing them ground in their title race.

5. Luke Shaw – Southampton to Manchester United

The teenager is undoubtedly one of the hottest properties in English football right now and those interested in him is a who’s who of Champions League contenders. Manchester United have emerged as shock favourites, though, as they are prepared to spend big on a new left-back this summer to replace long serving Patrice Evra, who is set to depart.

4. Julian Draxler – Schalke to Arsenal

Arsenal’s pursuit of the young German international has threatened to enter the realms of being a saga as it has been on and off so frequently since last summer that nobody actually knows for sure what exactly is going on. Wenger needs to spend big this summer, though, as he continues to threaten to lose the faith of the Gunners fans.

3. Miralem Pjanic – Roma to Paris Saint Germain

The Bosnian has been a long time target for Manchester United as they look to add some more creativity to their midfield, however, in a recent interview he declared his admiration for the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona, which could rule him out of a switch to Old Trafford in the next transfer window. Without Champions League football to offer, United have a greatly weakened case.

2. Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint Germain to Chelsea

After a season of misfiring strikers, the Blues have been linked with every goal machine under the sun, which has inevitably led them to Cavani. The Uruguayan has been in sparkling form in the French capital this term, but is said to be unhappy at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The clash of egos could force the 26-year-old up to London.

1. Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid to Chelsea

The Atltico star is undoubtedly the most sought after star in the world right now and the lucky Blues look to be the most likely to land his signature. It’s amazing to think that the Spaniards would consider letting him go, but when you consider that they will receive over £50m plus (probably) Fernando Torres back it may not seem like such a bad deal. Manchester United and Arsenal had also been in the running, but have fallen by the wayside.
