Rodgers is keen to add some defensive additions to help complement the wealth of attacking talents in his Liverpool squad and will hope to win the race to sign the Primeira Liga pair.

24 year old Argentine international Rojo would be an excellent acquisition and the experienced defender can handily offer options at both centre and left-back.

Rojo is likely to play a prominent role at the World Cup and as such Rodgers would do well to land the player before the finals get underway for fear his asking price will soar.

Rodgers will look to Carvalho to offer a strong defensive midfield option and the Portuguese international is attracting interest from a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ and much like Rojo the 22 year old tough tackler may cost far more after the upcoming World Cup if he puts in a strong display.

As well as looking to beef up his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League set-up Rodgers would do well to trim away some deadwood with the likes of Iago Aspas, Oussama Assaidi, Pepe Reina and Fabio Borini being surplus to requirements.
