The Merseyside giants are already busy making plans for the new season after having just finished the previous campaign as runners-up to eventual champions Manchester City.
And that second-place league finish also means that the Reds will be back competing once again in the Uefa Champions League in the autumn, with head coach Brendan Rodgers already lining up a number of possible transfer targets for when the summer transfer window reopens in order to strengthen the first-team squad at Anfield going forward.
However, with defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva now likely to be leaving the club in July, Rodgers is lining up Leverkusen’s Germany Under-21 international to replace the Brazilian at the base of the Reds’ midfield, with reports in Germany claiming that the Northern Irishman is now close to tying up a 12m euros deal for Can.
The German, 20, managed to register three goals and three assists in his 29 Bundesliga outings for his club in the previous campaign.
