Club legend said Thiago was “not a Manchester United player”.
Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs stopped the club from signing Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, according to BBC journalist Ian McGarry.
The Red Devils looked set to land Thiago last summer, but the 23-year-old eventually moved to Bayern Munich, for whom he has scored two goals and provided four assists in 16 Bundesliga games.
McGarry told BBC Radio 5 Live that United, then managed by David Moyes, had agreed to sign Thiago before the Old Trafford club pulled the plug on the deal.
It is claimed that Giggs, who was then a player, convinced United to end their pursuit of Thiago because he was “not a Manchester United player” in the Welshman’s opinion.
