The defender’s performances in the Eredivise this season have caught the attention of a number of top European clubs, but it is Napoli who have been the first to make their move to land his signature this summer.

However, according to reports in Italy, the Dutch side have slapped a transfer fee of €8m on Janmaat and are not ready to sell for anything less than the quoted figure.

Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon was in the Netherlands this weekend to hold talks with the club in order to negotiate a fee for the player, but the two could not come to an agreement.

The Italians will now have to act fast if they want to ensure that he joins up with them as Arsenal will soon be stepping up their search for someone to replace Manchester City bound right-back Bacary Sagna this summer.

Janmaat will head out to Brazil with the Dutch national team next week, so the two sides could be prompted to scramble to secure his signature.
