Former midfielder sacked after just five months.

Check in to England vs Italy

Serie A giants AC Milan have confirmed the departure of Clarence Seedorf after just five months as the club’s manager and replaced him with another former player in Filippo Inzaghi.

Seedorf, 38, took over from the struggling Massimiliano Allegri back in January after the Rossoneri endured a disastrous start to the 2013/14 season, but the former Netherlands midfielder failed to significantly improve the club’s fortunes on the pitch in what was his first management role.

The Dutchman was a legend at Milan during his playing days, but the club’s board have decided not to give him any further time to prove himself as their head coach, opting instead to appoint Inzaghi, who had been working with the youth team.

The former Italian international striker is another San Siro great from his playing career, and may be seen as a more steady pair of hands to help the club move forward after gaining some coaching experience with the under-19 side.

Big names such as Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and Parma head coach Roberto Donadoni had also been linked as possible successors to Seedorf, but Milan have moved quickly to appoint Inzaghi as their new manager for next season.
