Reports earlier this month had suggested that the Reds were close to bringing the highly-rated Swiss international on board this summer as Brendan Rodgers looked to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.
However, a concrete deal has yet to be agreed and now Rodgers risks missing out on the 22-year-old as Juventus have declared their own interest in signing him.
It is now believed that Shaqiri’s representatives have flown to Turin to speak with the Italian giants, where they confirmed that a move to Italy would appeal to their client.
Juventus’ interest in Shaqiri will come as a concern for Liverpool, who up until now had been confident of making him their third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Southampton forward Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.
