Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after appearing to bite an opposition player for the third time in his career.

The 27 year-old had previously sunk his teeth into PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal while at Ajax, and last season earned himself a ten match ban for Liverpool by doing the same to Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Last night it was Italy and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini on the receiving end of Suarez’s maw, but despite the offence seeming near inexcusable, one man speaking on the phone to BBC Three Counties Radio attempted to defend the Uruguayan in bizarre fashion.

The caller, named Richard, justified Suarez’s actions by saying that in his own adult life he had bitten other people on at least four occasions – and has ripped off part of someone’s ear before.
