Reds splash the cash!
The transfer of England midfielder Adam Lallana from Southampton will cost Liverpool £51m, according to the Daily Mail.
Lallana had a medical with the Reds on Friday, but neither club has yet confirmed that a deal has been struck.
The 26-year-old’s move to Anfield is expected to be announced imminently and Southampton are likely to be paid £25m as a transfer fee.
Liverpool will apparently hand Lallana a five-year contract worth 100,000 per week, which will cost them £26m if he stays at the club for the duration of the deal.
Southampton have already received around £30m from Manchester United for the sale of 18-year-old left-back Luke Shaw.
The Saints will not be allowed to keep the full amount of Lallana’s transfer fee. Former club Bournemouth are entitled to a £6.25m cut because of a sell-on clause.
Lallana joined Southampton from Bournemouth as a 12-year-old in 2000.
Southampton paid a very modest five-figure sum for Lallana, but it was agreed that the Cherries would receive 25% of the transfer fee if and when he was sold by the Saints.
Lallana has made 265 first-team appearances for Southampton in all competitions, scoring 60 goals.
He has represented the Saints in three different divisions.
