Gunners boss hints at move for Chile star.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may have hinted at a move for Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The Gunners boss, speaking as a pundit for French television at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, hailed Vidal as one of the best midfielders in the world after his highly impressive displays for the Chilean national side as they narrowly exited the tournament on penalties.

The 27-year-old has long been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, but also recently emerged as one of Arsenal’s main targets for this summer, with reports that the north London giants could pay a club-record £44m fee to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

This would certainly be a shock move given Arsenal’s record of preferring not to pay big in the transfer market, but Wenger’s comments on the player suggest he really is a big fan and could do everything possible to sign him ahead of other big clubs before next season.

“Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world,” Wenger said.

“He has everything. Incredible stamina, perfect timing. He’s a marathon athlete who plays football.”

Arsenal already have plenty of options in midfield, but rumours suggest Mikel Arteta could move to Athletic Bilbao this summer, making Vidal an ideal replacement.
