The north London side believe they are ahead of Liverpol in the race to sign Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez though their initial offer of £22m is some way short of the La Liga side’s £30m valuation.

Nou Camp boss Luis Enrique is seemingly happy to cash-in on the 25 year old Chilean as he seeks to bolster funds for a bid big for Liverpool ace Luis Suarez, so perhaps there is some leeway with regards to Sanchez’s price-tag.

Sanchez had his most productive season in La Liga to date last term, netting 19 goals in 27 starts, and has followed up that form with an excellent showing at the World Cup so one imagines a number of sides would be keen on the former Udinese man.

Arsene Wenger has tabled a £23.8m bid for Real Madrid battler Sami Khedira, who may well be seen as an ideal replacement for veteran Mikel Arteta, who has a year to run on his current Gunners contract and given his rather average displays in 2013/14 it’s entirely plausible that the Spaniard may be on his way out.

Arsenal are also closing in on a deal to sign £12m Newcastle United star Mathieu Debuchy, who is set to replace Bacary Sagna as the club’s first-choice right-back.

Aside for moves for this trio it also appears that Wenger has given up on signing AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli following a less than glorious World Cup campaign from the former Man City man.
