It was a much less positive day for Arsenal in the Emirates Cup, as Arsene Wenger’s side were beaten 1-0 by AS Monaco in their final match, despite fielding a stronger team than against Benfica yesterday.

The Gunners never got going in the first half and fell behind when Falcao guided home a fine header in his first start for Monaco since suffering serious injury in January, before Arsenal stepped it up in the second half.

They couldn’t find the breakthrough, however – and were denied a penalty late on when referee Martin Atkinson incorrectly ruled that goalkeeper Danijel Subasic’s foul on Chuba Akpom was just outside the area.
