Henry claims he’d rather his son played like Muller than either of the El Clasico duo.
New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry claims that if he had a son he’d want him to play like Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller rather than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Arsenal legend is set to be part of the MLS All-Star team that takes on Muller’s side on Wednesday and claims the German is a far better example of a great player than either of the FC Barcelona and Real Madrid superstars.
“Stepovers, tricks, that’s not the game,” Henry was quoted by Goal.
“The game is what Thomas Muller is doing. If I had a son right now, playing, I would say to him ‘look at them, look at [Franck] Ribery, look at Muller.’
“What Ronaldo does, and Messi, they’re just freaks. Don’t try to copy those guys. You can copy from Ribery, you can copy from Thomas Muller.”
Muller played a key role in his national side Germany winning the 2014 World Cup this summer and despite having enjoyed great success over the past few years, perhaps isn’t getting the praise he deserves.
Since breaking into the Bayern first team in 2009 the 24-year-old has won three Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and the Champions League – among other achievements – and has also earned 54 international caps and scored 22 goals.
However, during that same time period Messi has won four Balon d’Or trophies and Ronaldo the other.
