A number of clubs have a shirt number that is particularly iconic, and has seen a number of the club’s finest players don it over the years and, for Liverpool, that number is undoubtedly seven.

The famous shirt has been vacated this summer, however, after Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona – opening up the possibility for a new club legend to make the shirt their own.

Here are five players who could be in the running to pull on the number seven shirt in the coming years:

Raheem Sterling

Electric teenage winger Raheem Sterling enjoyed a stunning breakthrough for Liverpool last season, impressing with his brilliant displays for both club and country as he emerged as one of the Premier League’s finest young players.

As it is, Sterling wears the number 31 shirt at Anfield, but his performances perhaps deserve bumping up to a number with a more first team flavour – perhaps the famous seven.
