Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has emerged as a surprise target for Serie A giants Juventus, according to a report in the London Evening Standard.

The Italian side have reportedly made informal approaches to British-based agents to find out whether or not the Gunners would consider selling the 22-year-old, who has suffered a slight dip in form in recent times as well as having his off-the-pitch behaviour called into question after being seen smoking and drinking on holiday.

Wilshere was one of the most highly rated young players in Arsenal’s youth academy for some time, and made quite an impression when he broke into the first-team in the 2010/11 season and earning a call-up to the England squad soon after.

Still, Wilshere is now seen as not having quite fulfilled his potential at the Emirates Stadium, and Juventus sense an opportunity to snap him up as they ponder making some new signings in midfield.

With the futures of Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba somewhat up in the air, new manager Massimiliano Allegri may need to strengthen in that position, though it is thought that Wilshere may command a fee of between £30-40m.

If he moved, the former Bolton Wanderers loanee would become the second high-profile English player to move to Italy this summer, following Ashley Cole, who joined AS Roma from Chelsea.
