Liverpool could be set to turn their attentions away from Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno, report the Express, with the Reds ready to rekindle their interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo as their protracted pursuit of Moreno continues to drag on.

The report suggests that Brendan Rodgers and his bosses are readying a bid of £13 million for Rojo, who impressed with his performances for Argentina at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and has interested all manner of clubs from across Europe this summer.

With this fee less than Liverpool were reportedly going to pay for Moreno, it appears as though Rodgers may have been tempted by a cheaper alternative, although making it clear to Sevilla that they are willing to move on to other targets is also likely to be a part of the Reds’ thinking.

A dynamic and attacking threat from full back, however, Rojo would fit well into an enterprising team at Anfield and has the right level of physicality to fit seamlessly into the Premier League.

The return to fitness of Jose Enrique has meant that the signing of a left back isn’t quite the desperate priority that it was at the start of the summers, although Liverpool are still likely to sign one of their options before the transfer window closes.
