Having sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a solid back-up to his first choice central defensive pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
After a shaky start to his Hammers career 26 year old New Zealander Reid has been an accomplished performer and having entered the final year of his Upton Park contract there is every chance he may be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium, especially if he feels he can challenge for a first team starting berth.
Wenger has also displayed an interest in Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger, but a move to Reid is now seemingly a possibility.
Reid has made 106 appearances for West Ham since his 2010 move to the east London outfit and an £8m move for the Hammers star could represent a fine bit of business given Arsenal banked £15m from Vermaelen’s sale.
