Club legend Paul Scholes says 3-5-2 formation is not working
Having guided Netherlands to third place at the 2014 World Cup using the tactic, van Gaal has since tried to introduce the 3-5-2 at United.
Although results from pre-season suggested it could work, two defeats and a draw in 2014/15 has proven otherwise and Scholes thinks the new system is to blame.
“Three men at the back doesn’t seem to be working for them yet. The players don’t seem to have adapted comfortably to 3-5-2,” the former England international wrote in the Independent.
