Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar according to the Metro.

The Gunners are keen to bring in a centre-back on transfer deadline day with Thomas Vermaelen having moved to Barcelona earlier this summer and as well as targeting Dutchman Vlaar Arsene Wenger is also tracking Man City youngster Matija Nastasic.
Southampton and Inter Milan are also pursuing experienced Villa Park skipper Vlaar though Arsenal are said to be leading the chase for the tough tackler.
The 29 year old is said to be valued in excess of £10m but would certainly offer Wenger a strong back-up option to his first choice central defensive pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
Vlaar moved to Aston Villa from Feyenoord in July 2012 and is something of a fan favourite and his rock solid displays at the World Cup finals will certainly have attracted a great deal of interest.
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert would be loathed to lose Vlaar after his side’s excellent start to the current Premier League campaign.
