After former Real Madrid president Raymon Calderon recently admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo is disillusioned with life at the club, the Daily Express now believes that Angel Di Maria’s sparkling start to life at Old Trafford has once again turned the megastar’s head as he edges closer to a return to Manchester United.

Calderon says the controversial sales of Di Maria and Xabi Alonso by club president Florentino Perez have angered Ronaldo who believes Real, who have taken only three points from their first three La Liga games, are weaker for their departures.

And Calderon, who bought the Portuguese international to the Bernabeu for a then record of £80m in 2009 believes the club’s policy of selling their star players to balance the books will edge Ronaldo back to Manchester.

“My impression is he is fed up with the policy of the current president,” said Calderon. “When he came to Real with Arjen Robben he thought he would be a good colleague for him, but then he was sold.

“Two years ago Gonzalo Higuain was sold [to Napoli] and he didn’t like that. Last year he thought it was a mistake to let Mesut Ozil leave for Arsenal and the last straw was selling Alonso to Bayern Munich and Di Maria this summer.”

United have made no secret of their desire to bring Ronaldo back to the club and could move for him as early as January.
