The Polish front man moved to Bayern in the summer on a free transfer after refusing to sign a new contract with former club Borussia Dortmund.

Unfortunately, the 26 year old has struggled to find the back of the net for his new club, scoring just once in seven appearances.

Lewandowski’s poor form has coincided with the German’s side dire goal scoring form with Pep Guardiola’s side only netting six times in five games.

Despite this, Boateng does not blame the striker for Bayern’s bad form and has backed the former Dortmund hitman to regain his golden touch in front of goal.

“Lewandowski is a world-class striker,” the Germany defender, who scored the side’s winner against Manchester City last week, told TZ. “He will still score loads of goals.

“However, there are no excuses for our current form. More effort just has to come from us. What’s missing is the completion of tactics, the last pass, accuracy and concentration.”

Lewandowski had an excellent record while at Westfalenstadion, scoring 103 goals in just 187 games. This led to him becoming one of the most sort after strikers in Europe before he completed his move to the Allianz Arena.
