United preparing move for big-name La Liga defender.Manchester United could be set to revive their interest in rock-solid Atletico Madrid centre-back Miranda, according to Spanish source Fichajes.net.
The Brazilian international has been one of the most in-form defenders in Europe in recent times, helping Atletico to the La Liga title last season as well as a superb run to the Champions League final.
Miranda’s fine form has seen him linked with a number of big clubs in recent times, with United believed to have been chasing him during the summer transfer window.
Instead, Louis van Gaal focused mainly on bringing in new attacking players, spending big money on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, though the club’s defence now looks badly exposed.
Following a disastrous 5-3 defeat at Leicester City last weekend, United are now back in the market for signings at the back, and Miranda could be van Gaal’s priority target for the January transfer window.
It seems unlikely that Atletico will allow such a key player to leave in the middle of the season, with Diego Simeone’s side chasing the title again this year, and having also sold some big names including Diego Costa during the summer.
