Manchester City are interested in signing Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos…
Premier League champions Manchester City could make a surprise move for Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos, and are prepared to offer the player a huge £7.7m a year contract.
Reports in the Metro claim that City are planning an audacious big-money move, with boss Manuel Pellegrini keen to be re-united with the 28-year-old – who he previously worked with while in charge of Los Blancos between 2009 and 2010.
The source adds that City are expected to face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for the player – whose contract at Real expires in 2017 – after the Blues were previously linked with Ramos in January.
Chelsea are of course managed by another of Ramos’ former coaches, Jose Mourinho, and it appears that the player could be given the option of moving to either London or Manchester, should he choose to leave the European Champions.
The defender’s brother and agent, Rene Ramos, claimed that an unnamed English side – thought to be either Chelsea or City – previously tried to tempt the player away from the Spanish capital with a mammoth offer, and could yet return with an improved deal.
