Gunners to launch swap deal for Bundesliga star.Arsenal are set to revive their efforts to sign Schalke starlet Julian Draxler this January with an offer of £30m plus Lukas Podolski in return, according to sources in Germany.
The Gunners have been linked with Draxler in the past, and reportedly missed out on signing him last winter as he opted to remain with his current club and continue his development in the Bundesliga.
Widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe, the 21-year-old’s fine recent form has saw him come onto the club’s radar again as they consider further big-name signings this January after some considerable summer spending.
Although Arsene Wenger brought in other attacking players such as Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, who have both started brightly since moving to the Emirates Stadium, it is thought that the Frenchman is unhappy with the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski as squad options, with the latter now set to be offered to Schalke as a makeweight in this deal.
The experienced German forward was strongly linked with an exit from Arsenal late on in the summer, with the likes of Juventus said to be interested in him, but a return to his native Germany may now be on if the two clubs can come to an agreement on this exchange deal.
It remains to be seen if Schalke will allow Draxler to leave that easily in the middle of the season, and it may take an improved offer for Arsenal to land their top target.
