United would have to pay an initial fee of £80m just to bring him back, whilst they would need to cough up a further £20m per year in wages.

And according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, the move will not be going ahead despite United’s considerable financial muscle.

“I know for a fact Real Madrid will not let Cristiano go this summer, no way,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter that Manchester United have the finances to get him, it doesn’t matter that Cristiano is thinking of coming back – Real Madrid won’t let him go.”

United initially let him go for a fee of £80m back in 2009, and would apparently have no qualms in paying the same price to bring him back.

He is reported to have grown frustrated in the Spanish capital and would be open to making the move back to England.
