Gunners keen on Spanish youngster to help settle nervy back line.
Arsenal are said to be preparing a massive £34m move for Athletic Bilbao’s central defensive starlet Aymeric Laporte when the transfer window re-opens in January, according to the Metro.
The 20-year-old is being rated as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and the Arsenal scouting network have reportedly been all over him for several months now.
The Gunners were said to have had an offer knocked back for him in the summer, but the Daily Express now says a deal will happen in the new year – with Arsene Wenger ready to pay his £34million release clause.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to be convinced that he is the ideal man to bring stability to the side’s back line as well as being young enough to mould into an even better player over the coming years.
The 6’2? centre back is a French Under-21 regular (having been born in the French side of the Basque country) and is famed for his tackling and positional sense.
