Sparagna, who can either play at centre-half or in a holding midfield role, has already played for the French U20 side, however he has only featured six times for Marseille so far.

He has had his problems with injuries in the past, which is believed to have held him back in his progress into the Marseille first team, but he is still highly-rated in the south of France.

Now back to full fitness, Marseille are hoping that he will feature more regularly in the first team, but the bigger question remains as to whether he will still be at the club long term.

Arsenal and Rennes are both said to be preparing offers. Arsenal’s offer is stated to be higher, and yet the paper believe the Gunners will fail in their acquisition plans. La Marseillaise report that the defender is likely to stay put, saying:

Stephane’s priority is to toughen up in Marseille, and his focus is not in his immediate financial future. The hope is he agrees a new deal quickly to avoid seeing the starlet jump ship from Marseille, as was the case with Mathieu Flamini during the summer of 2004.
