Borini’s relationship with Brendan Rodgers has allegedly hit an all time low, with the pair barely even on speaking terms. Along with his total lack of game time so far this season, despite a number of woeful performances from summer signing Mario Balotelli, this has prompted the striker to consider his options in January.

The Liverpool forward may have to take a substantial pay cut if he is to make the switch to Serie A, which in the past he has seemed unwilling to do. A £14m move to Sunderland following a successful season on loan was scuppered this summer for the very same reason.

Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Inter Milan are all thought to be interested in the Italian, but his agent has played down a move back to his native country.

His chances of game time are unlikely to improve once Daniel Sturridge returns from injury, so a January move could certainly be on the cards.
