The Romanian international impressed in patches last term but is now firmly considered a flop and has started just two of Tottenham’s ten Premier League fixtures under boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The 24 year old has been told he can leave White Hart Lane in January and Arsenal are one of a host of sides keen on the former Steaua Bucharest star.

Inter Milan and Juventus are hoping to bring in Chiriches on a loan deal though Arsenal are ready to pay for an outright move for the Spurs defender.

Arsenal have been leaky at the back and saw a three goal lead vanish against Anderlecht in midweek and this could hasten Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of a January capture though a move for a player who isn’t even a regular at Tottenham seems a tad far fetched.

The Gunners have seen a number of defensive options ruled out with injuries this season and are currently without Laurent Koscielny whilst Per Metesacker is someway below his best.

The sale of Thomas Vermaelen has left Wenger short of back-up but is Chiriches really the answer to his defensive woes?
