The Napoli star was substituted after just 25 minutes of his side’s 1-0 victory over Fiorentina. After speculation that the injury was a bad one, the severity has now been confirmed and the player is expected to undergo surgery in the next few days.

The 23-year-old will be a massive loss for the Serie A side, with the Italian international making 14 appearances for the club this season already. He has scored just once in that time but has assisted a number of goals and has been a vital part of Rafael Benitez’s side.

Insigne has caught the attention of a number of top European clubs, with Arsene Wenger reportedly very interested in bringing him to the Emirates. Any chance of a January transfer has now been demolished, with the pacey forward set to miss at least six months of football.
