Gunners prepare big-money contract for under-performing star.
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to tie down Jack Wilshere to a new five-year contract worth around £150,000 per week, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old would become one of the club’s highest earners if he puts pen to paper on this deal, despite failing to reach top form on a regular basis in recent times.
Wilshere came through Arsenal’s youth academy and looked like one of the club’s most promising players as a teenager when he first made his breakthrough in the Gunners’ senior side.
Still, the player has struggled for fitness and form in the last few years, and with Arsenal’s results on the pitch still not good enough as they look like struggling for a top four place this season, it may be unwise for Arsene Wenger to be handing out huge contracts to his under-performing stars.
Wilshere recently impressed during the international break for England, looking like one of the best players on the pitch against Slovenia and Scotland, though he was found wanting again with the visit of Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend, looking horribly off the pace as the Red Devils claimed an impressive 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.
