Premier League duo in competition for midfielder.
Chelsea and Arsenal could be about to switch their focus from Real Madrid contract rebel Sami Khedira and target AS Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho instead, according to the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese international is valued at around £30m by the Ligue 1 giants, and it may be that he will prove too expensive for the Gunners as they look to improve their midfield options on the cheap this January.
Khedira’s contract situation at the Bernabeu made him an ideal target, with both clubs thought to be readying £7m bids to sign him this winter, though he could also be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Still, it looks as though the German international is set to snub an offer from the Premier League as he favours a Bayern Munich, with a pre-contract set to be agreed with the Bundesliga champions in January.
This has seen Moutinho become a top target for both the London sides, though it may be that Chelsea would edge Arsenal in the race for his signature.
The 28-year-old only moved to Monaco from Porto last summer, but could join another big name in Radamel Falcao out of the club’s exit door this season.
