The Gunners are in the midst of yet another injury crisis, something which now seems commonplace at the Emirates.

Wenger knows that he is short in a number of areas, and has revealed that he will be very active in January as he looks to address the squad’s deficiencies.

“In January we will of course try to get at least one body in,” he said.

Arsenal have been playing with a makeshift defence for much of the season, with Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy missing most of the new campaign.

Even before the season started it was clear that the North London club needed to do more business, with a centre-back and a defensive midfielder the top priority.

Thomas Vermaelen was not replaced after making the switch to Barcelona, and the Gunners have been without a proper defensive midfielder for years.

Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that new signings are expected, but will no doubt wait until their chickens have come home to roost before counting them.
