Liverpool face a must-win Champions League clash against Basel on Tuesday evening, knowing that only three points will take them on to the second round of the competition.
Brendan Rodgers’ side currently sit two points behind their Swiss opponents in third place, with four points from their first five games. Basel defeated the Reds in the reverse fixture earlier this year, and will only need a point to secure their progress alongside Real Madrid.
Strikers Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli are still out injured, so Rickie Lambert is likely to retain his place up front. Defenders Mamadou Sakho and Jon Flanagan are also still recovering from their layoffs.
Rodgers is however likely to recall captain Steven Gerrard, who was rested for Saturday’s draw with Sunderland. His only major selection issue will regard whether to choose Philippe Coutinho or Adam Lallana to join Lambert and Raheem Sterling in his front three.
