Red Devils to smash transfer record for world class attacker.
Manchester United have reportedly been given the green light to make a bid of around £80m to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale next summer, according to the Daily Express.
The Welshman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on a number of occasions in recent times, with Louis van Gaal keen to continue his policy of spending big on world class players to improve his squad.
Bale was known to be a top target for United while he was still at Tottenham Hotspur, but he opted to make the move to the Bernabeu instead.
Still, he may now be open to a return to the Premier League after suggestions that he could soon fall out of favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is planning some big-money signings of his own.
If Bale did move for £80m, he would break the transfer record set by United this summer when they signed Angel Di Maria, also from Real Madrid, in a £59.7m deal.
