Gunners preparing their move for Ilkay Gundogan.
Arsenal are considering a £16 million January move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan after he was issued with an ultimatum by the Bundesliga strugglers, report the Mirror, as manager Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his midfield with the classy German international playmaker.
Gundogan has just 18 months left on his contract at Signal Iduna Park and Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to have told him that he will be sold in the summer if he does not agree to a contract extension – but Gundogan’s representatives are now sounding out the potential of a January deal.
The report suggests that Gundogan does not want to stay in the Bundesliga with Dortmund and is keen on a move to Premier League, potentially opening the door to a surprise Emirates Stadium switch as early as this month, if the Gunners are willing to meet an asking price believed to be in the region of £16m.
Whilst Arsenal are believed to be in the market for a central midfielder, it is generally accepted that a more combative, defensive presence than the playmaking Gundogan would be on Arsene Wenger’s radar – but it may be that the opportunity to sign one of the Bundesliga’s finest creative talents is too good to pass by.
