United don’t want to lose their No. 1, however they have told the Spaniard they will look to sell him in the summer if he refuses to commit his future to the club by extending his current deal – which expires in 18 months time.

The Daily Star say Madrid view the 24 year old as a long term replacement to Iker Casillas, who is coming to the end of his career at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeau and who de Gea has begun to displace in the Spanish national side.

United are set to confirm the arrival of Victor Valdes in the coming days of the window on a free transfer meaning they are well stocked should de Gea decide to quit Old Trafford.

Although Los Blancos are willing to offer as much as £27 million for the shot stopper, Louis van Gaal is keen to extend the contract of one of the Premier League’s best keepers and hopes to keep the ‘keeper in the long-term.
