As is typical with the north London side, the length of Campbell’s deal has not been specified. In the meantime, the Costa Rican has gone straight out on loan to Villarreal in order to gain some first team experience – the fourth temporary move away of his career, having gone to FC Lorient, Real Betis, and Olympiakos in the past.
Despite starring at the World Cup for his national team, the 22-year-old has made just nine appearances for the Gunners this season. Only three of them have been starts. Manager Arsene Wenger may be sending him out until the end of the campaign and then hoping that he can make an impact next time round.
Campbell is the third forward to leave the North London club on loan this transfer window. Lukas Podolski going to Inter Milan and Yaya Sanogo going to Crystal Palace are the other two to have left the team until the end of the season.
