Spurs tried to capture the 22 year old last week as the transfer window came to a close, however a move could not be sanctioned because the North London side were unable to offload the surplus to requirements Vlad Chiriches or Younes Kaboul, reports Sunday People.

But Pochettino will renew his interest in the young Austrian despite interest from the Bundesliga expected in the summer as he looks to get rid of his two out of favour centre-backs once again.

Spurs are also believed to be interested in Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte, though the Frenchman has attracted interested from large number of clubs reportedly including Manchester United and as this is the case, the Spurs hierarchy are said to prefer a move for Wimmer.

The young defender has been a key figure in his side’s Bundesliga campaign this season playing in every minute in the league so far.
