Marquinhos is part of an enviable shortlist of defensive talent which includes the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels as Louis van Gaal looks to revamp and untrusted back line.
The Daily Express claim United made two late bids for the Brazilian towards the end of the January transfer window that were rejected but now claim the Red Devils have taken different approach by contacting the agents of the PSG man directly in an attempt to work a move.
However, they add, the French champions will most likely be unwilling to let him leave and may have even offered him improved terms in a new contract to ward of potential outside interest.
The Ligue 1 side only bought the 20 year old for a quite incredible £27 million in 2013 and you’d expect they would have to bid higher than that to get their man – the Express believe a bid of £30m could suffice.
Meanwhile, Marquinhos agent himself, Giuliano Bertolucci, seemingly admitted that United were attempting to sign his client in comments made yesterday.
“Last summer the president of PSG stated that Marquinhos was unsellable; we will see what he thinks next June,” Bertolucci said, reports Goal.
“So many [clubs] want him, including Manchester United. What is certain is that Marquinhos wants to become the best defender in the world.”
