Gunners boss reveals huge sacrifices in bid to win cup.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed his obsession with winning the FA Cup every season, so much so that he feels it may have cost his team in the Champions League, the Daily Mirror reports.
The Frenchman has won the trophy five times in his career with the Gunners, including last season’s 3-2 win over Hull City in the final at Wembley, ending the club’s long run without silverware.
Still, Arsenal may have done better in other competitions if not for Wenger’s big love for the famous old trophy, with the manager admitting: “We have always taken it seriously. We did not always manage to win it, but we have won it five times during my period here.
“Nobody has won it more in the last 18 years, so we have always taken it seriously. Sometimes so seriously that we suffered in the Champions League.
“Many times a cup game was in front of a Champions League game – for instance this week we play in the cup and then the week after next in the Champions League. Many times we lost some players.”
