Arsenal Forward Hints At Frustrations Towards Team-Mate

Welbeck is just returning to the team after being out for a month with a thigh strain..

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck seemed rather irritated in his post-match interview with the club’s official online channel after he visibly gave Olivier Giroud an ear-bashing for not slipping him through in the first half.

Welbeck has previously stated his desire to start as a central striker and was given that role whilst Giroud was injured, but since the Frenchman returned from his injury he has resumed the position of spearheading Arsenal’s attack – leaving his English colleague shunted out to the wing.

Giroud bagged a brace in the encounter, but Welbeck was clearly still frustrated to not get on the score-sheet as he was withdrawn around the hour mark for Theo Walcott.

“Oli got the two goals and he’s very pleased with that,” Welbeck told Arsenal Player.

“We could have maybe got a couple more goals had a few passes been played through a bit earlier but we’re pleased to be through to the next round.”

There were two occasions in the first half where the England international was clearly unhappy with the quality of Giroud’s service – or lack thereof.

Wenger confirmed that when Giroud starts, the other players have to move wide, so Welbeck might have to get used to supporting role from wide positions.
