The Old Trafford side have put aside £74m to land Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale and £33m for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels with Louis van Gaal clearly keen to spend big to help strengthen his Man United side.
Van Gaal spent over £150m on new players last summer but has seen his side blow hot and cold and there is every chance that Man United could struggle to secure a top four finish and one imagines that any failure to secure a Champions League berth would put an end to any hope of landing these two world-class talents.
Former Tottenham man Bale has been a big success since his £86m move from White Hart Lane to the Bernabeu and with Real Madrid flying high at the top of La Liga and mounting a challenge to retain their Champions League crown there seems little reason the Welsh international would push to leave the Spanish capital.
On the other hand Hummels has seen his Westfalenstadion side struggle for form this term, Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sitting in the bottom half of the Bundesliga, and as such may be open to a move to Man United.
