Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be on his way to MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City after CEO Robb Heineman revealed that he held a “productive” meeting with the Dutchman and his representatives, Sports Illustrated reports.

Van der Vaart has scored four goals in 16 appearances for Bundesliga side Hamburg this season, though with his contract expiring over the summer he could be set to move on.

Like so many ageing heroes, the 32-year-old may well be the latest name to head Stateside, with reports in Germany claiming that he had been offered $4.8 million by Sporting KC, though Heineman saying that that figure was wide of the mark.
