Gunners ready to replace World Cup winner.
Arsenal are ready to sign a new defender this summer after growing doubts over out-of-form centre-back Per Mertesacker, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The former Germany international has not been at his best this season, despite previously being a key figure at the back for the Gunners, and he is now playing for his future at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal already moved to sign Gabriel from Villarreal in January, and Arsene Wenger could make further changes to his back four in the next transfer window after Mertesacker’s worrying dip in performances.
The 30-year-old was particularly poor in the recent defeat to AS Monaco, and hasn’t got long to improve his form to persuade the club not to invest in his replacement.
